Newsome Panthers Under 8 side played their first game of the new season away to Hunslet Parkside.
Hunslet scored the first try of the match after some tight early defence from both sides.
Panthers were lead by strong tackling from Max Fleary, Harvey Days and Eoin Morris.
Two Hunslet tries were matched with three first half tries from the Panthers after slick moves from Marley Myers, Demir Acarer and William Eyre.
Hunslet started the second half with an early score but good midfield work from panthers Jay Crosby, Niamh Ennis and Cameron Penrose helped set up tries for Alex Kirk, Archie Duncan, Marley Myers, William Eyre and Demir Acarer to keep the panthers in contention after further Hunslet tries.
A final try by panthers Marley Myers right on the final whistle capped an excellent team effort, with the coach’s man on the match was Eyre and top tackler was Fleary.
Newsome’s Under 9 side faced St Joseph’s at Hall Bower and it was a try-fest with St Joseph’s opening the scoring.
Panthers responded through Ryan Kirrane-Perrin and the match took on a ‘you score we score‘ pattern with St Joseph’s going ahead again.
Quality tackling was on show with Louis Creaser, Connor Emerson and Jayden Myers making St Joseph’s earn every try.
Newsome always had a response with Luckas Hussain-King giving a stepping master class, and he added Newsome’s second try.
Dylan Sykes was constantly threatening and there were further tries from Creaser, Kirrane-Perrin (2), Hussain-King from an offload from Connor Emerson.
It was level at half-time and it was Newsome who opened the scoring in the second half with Malachi McKenzie bursting through and Corey Stead finishing the move off with the try.
A try from McKenzie, a first try of the season for Myers and another McKenzie try were cancelled out by St Joseph’s.
Ryan Stotz then raced the full length of the pitch to open his account and put Newsome In control, St Joseph responded with another try but Stead powered over to seal the victory .

Parents Man of the match was Hussain-King. top tackler Emerson, magic moment went to Stotz and most improved was Sykes.
Panthers Under 13 team were 42-28 winners against Guiseley Rangers.
Newsome started well but the visitors opened the score with a clever play on the left hand side, in the first few minutes of the game.
The home side didn’t panic and stuck to their game plan. Leighton Davis and Travis Corion replied with unconverted tries.
The backs were putting together some very good combinations which led to a try by captain Joe Hughes, shortly followed by another converted try from Corion just before the end of the first half.
The second half brought tries from Billy Haywood, Finlay Clarke and Travis Corion – all of which were converted by Hughes.
Man of the match went to Hughes, parents player to Corion and top tackler was Thomas Spiliotis.
Newsome Under 14 were 44–8 victors over West Bowling in their first match of the season.
At home against newly-promoted West Bowling, the first half saw the Panthers soon ahead with tries from Liam Robinson and two conversions.
In the second half tries from Innes Senior, Harry Newman, Joel Sykes and Robinson completed his hat trick, and there were goals from Newman and Jasper McGuire.
Man of the match went to Robinson and grafter to newcomer Kahyam Crampton.
