Newsome Panthers earned the Huddersfield bragging rights with a convincing 38-16 home triumph over St Joseph’s in Pennine League Championship I Division.

Just a week after securing a 24-24 draw at fellow derby rivals Lindley Swifts, the Panthers turned on the style to notch up their first victory of the season.

In contrast, St Joseph’s are still searching for their first success after losing their opening three games.

And on a day of bitter disappointment for the town’s teams, Newsome proved to be the sole victors.

In the Championship Division, Slaithwaite Saracens went down 32-20 at King Cross, while Underbank Rangers were beaten 26-0 at Siddal in the Second Division.

At the same time, Fourth Division Meltham All Blacks were losing 19-6 at home to Thornhill Trojans A and Slaithwaite A narrowly lost 30-28 to Garforth Tigers in Division V.
