AHEAD of their crucial play-off tie against Dewsbury Celtic tomorrow (2.30), Underbank coach Aaron Perrin has warned his players: “There can be no excuses!”

As Rangers prepare for their trip to Crow Nest Park, the Australian issued the message following a dismal spell in the Conference National.

Perrin, whose side have claimed only one win in their last six games, said: “This is what we have been waiting for.

“If we lose, there can be no excuses and if we play bad now – that’s the season over.”

For Perrin, along with Dave Edwards, Mark Booth and Matt Larder, the tie could potentially be his last game involved with the club.

“Both myself and Dave (Edwards) are returning to Australia.

“Mark Booth, who has been one of my assistants, is retiring, and Matt Larder, who started as a player and then has been one of my assistants, will also be leaving.”

Regarding his decision to leave Rangers, Perrin explained: “I’ve been thinking about other avenues for a while now.

“In particular, I’ve been thinking about finding similar coaching roles.

“In the two seasons I have been in charge at Underbank we have improved massively and it would be great to leave on another high,” added Perrin.

For tomorrow’s vital game, Perrin said they must forget about their two previous meetings with Dewsbury.

At The Cross 27 days ago, tomorrow’s opponents enjoyed a 24-14 win.

And, at Crow Nest Park in May, once again, Dewsbury came out on top with a 28-16 victory.

“They are a good side. They work well for each other but every game that has taken place before now is out of the window.

“We need to look at it like the start of a brand new season. I’m not too concerned about them – I am totally focused on us.

“Essentially, I think we have been a side who always lift ourselves for the big games.”

Meanwhile, Underbank chairman Michael Nasey said reaching the play-offs is an indication the team have improved compared with last season.

“I’m looking forward to the game. But, while reaching the play-offs is good, we haven’t achieved anything yet,” he said.

“It is merely an indication that we have improved on last season.”

Nasey continued by thanking Perrin for the side he has managed to assemble.

“Aaron must be congratulated for the team he’s put together this season.

“Given that they are here only until the end of the season, Dave (Edwards) and Aaron will be keen to end on a high.”
