THIS season’s Holliday Cup competition is set for an explosive start with an opening-round clash between the 2008 finalists.

Holders Slaithwaite Saracens and runners-up Moldgreen are set to go head-to-head at the DRAM Centre in a repeat of last season’s cracking Lockwood Park finale when a late Darren Hawkyard try gave the Saracens a thrilling 10-6 triumph.

Another tight contest is on the cards when the big rivals resume hostilities in a fortnight (Saturday, November 8), with Pennine League First Division side Moldgreen hoping home advantage will make all the difference against their Second Division opponents.

A cracking contest is also predicted in the Cup clash at Fartown where Premier Division St Joseph’s entertain Emley Moor from Division I. Again, home advantage could be the key.

In the other ties, Newsome Panthers, who are beginning to find their form in Division II, host Third Division Lindley Swifts, while Division V side Meltham All Blacks host Underbank Rangers.
