MELTHAM All Blacks produced a solid team performance to secure an excellent 28-12 triumph over Halifax Irish A in Division V.

In contrast to Meltham’s usual start, they were first on the scoresheet when Rob Lewis sent Jason Oldfield away for the opening try, and they led 12-6 at the break after Ryan White forced his way over for the second and added the conversions.

And after the interval, the All Blacks were even more dominant.

Shane Dawson extended his side’s lead when he intercepted a pass on the Halifax 10m line and raced the length of the field to score.

The visitors did manage to hit back for a second time, but that only signalled the start of an excellent late victory charge.

Noticeable breaks from wing-centre partnership Lewis Healey and Jason Carter were causing big problems for the visitors and it was no surprise when Lewis, playing for the first time at prop, grabbed a deserved try.

Then the final try came when White drew his man and fed Alan Doig to set off down the wing and score.

Halifax Irish nominated Dawson as best back and Lewis best back, while Meltham voted Lewis as players’ player.
