EMLEY Moor remain joint top of Division I after a highly-entertaining 28-26 triumph over Elland.

In a cracking contest where the lead regularly changed hands, Moor opened the scoring with a Karl Adamski penalty.

But it wasn’t long before Elland hit back with an unconverted try to lead 4-2, and the tone of the encounter had been set.

Adamski then levelled with a second penalty before the visitors again regained controlled with a converted try to make it 10-4.

A Glen Holdsworth try and Adamski conversion made it all square for a second time and, minutes later, Adamski followed up with a penalty to hand Moor a two-point advantage.

And by half-time that had been stretched to eight when Holdsworth charged in again.

However, the momentum swung back Elland’s way at the start of the second half as they grabbed two tries and one conversion to edge 20-18 ahead.

At that stage, it looked as if the contest could be slipping out of the home side’s grasp.

But crucial scores from Jamie Parmentor and Jason Southwell and another Adamski conversion made it 28-20, and Moor had finally created a winning lead, despite conceding a late Elland consolation try.

An excellent all-round team performance was at the heart of the victory, although there were some top individuals displays from youngsters Kris Shepherd and James Utley.

There was a 32- 20 defeat for Moor’s second string at Illingworth A in Division VII.

Their points came through tries from Taff Barron, Mick Hamner and a stunning 80m effort from debutant speedster Ollie Johnson. Jack Dyson added the goals.
