SLAITHWAITE Saracens have celebrated clinching a League and Cup double by landing a sponsorship deal with Total Fitness.

Just days after securing the Pennine League Second Division title and retaining the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy, the highly-successful club have secured backing from the leading fitness company to use their Waterloo complex for the forthcoming First Division season.

And pictured above is Saracens commercial manager Senan Costello (centre) and the Slaithwaite team and coaching with Bev, Alison and Nichola from Total Fitness.

Meanwhile, the club’s newly-formed Slaithwaite Juniors Under 21s summer side suffered a 48-14 opening defeat to a far more experienced Victoria Gladiators side in the Midland Merit League.

The Saracens’ side is made up of relatively new players to the game, and that was reflected in the opening 15 minutes as they failed to complete one set of six due to the high error rate.

But when they did get the ball they used it well, with tries coming from Jack Holden and Ryan Johnson and a conversion from Luke Karoychuk.

There were also debuts for teenagers Dave Longmore (16) and Adam Harrison (17), who did well in their opening games.

And, as a whole, the team showed up well in their first run-out of the season.
