ST JOSEPH’S couldn’t have asked for a much better start to their Pennine League Premier Division campaign.

After beating New Earswick All Blacks 36-22 in their opening encounter, the Fartown-based side made it two wins out of two with a big 58-16 victory over Queensbury last weekend.

And now they travel to Siddal A tomorrow in the knowledge that a victory will not only maintain their 100% record but will also secure second spot in the Premier League ladder.

Confidence is obviously sky high after such an outstanding start to the season and, with competition for first-team places being so intense, the benefits should also be felt by Joe’s second string who have a local derby at home to Newsome Panthers A in Division VI.

Another Huddersfield side enjoying the perfect start to the season are First Division Emley Moor.

They have won their opening four fixtures and it would be something of a shock if they didn’t make it five in a row when they visit bottom side King Cross Park.

Former Giants favourite Paul Reilly made a triumphant return to Moldgreen six days ago as he helped the Dalton-based side secure their first victory of the season, 20-16 against West Bowling A.

Moldgreen officials will obviously be hoping that win will be a taste of things to come, starting with another home win against Wyke this weekend.

After their exit from the Yorkshire Cup, Slaithwaite Saracens turn their attentions to their Division II challenge.

The Saracens are confident of mounting another serious bid for promotion and that will be tested to the full when they travel to early leaders Dearne Valley Bulldogs.

A big 38-0 home victory over Thornhill Trojans A last week suggests Newsome Panthers could be clicking into gear, and that will be reinforced with another home triumph against Boothtown Terriers.

Lindley Swifts have had a mixed start to their Third Division season, but they should be confident of securing a second win of the season when they entertain second bottom Hoyland Vikings.

Unfortunately, the only side below the Vikings in the League ladder are Underbank Rangers, and they will have their work cut out to begin an upward move this weekend when they travel to second-placed Liversedge.

In Division V, Meltham All Blacks will be confident of securing a second win of the campaign at bottom club Keighley Town A, while in Division VII all three of the town’s teams boast home advantage.

Emley A take on West Leeds A, Slaithwaite A host Burley Lions and Underbank A entertain Greetland A.
