BUOYANT Slaithwaite Saracens are on the up!
The Colne Valley side scored a stunning 46-18 victory against high-riding Stanningley to catapult to fifth in the Pennine League Second Division standings.
It followed on from their victory against Dearne Valley and stunned Stanningley, who were already on eight points following their victory at Bank Top.
Saracens set the tone from the first set of six when the ball was worked to Richard Flooks on the left wing and he raced in at the corner, failing to add the conversion when the ball hit the woodwork.
Slaithwaite were 10 points up after as many minutes, however, when Bobby Bahadori went over and Flooks converted.
A converted try reduced the arrears for Stanningley, but on the half hour Aaron Crabtree scored with a determined run, beating several would-be tacklers, and Flooks added the extras to provide a 16-6 half-time lead.
McAfferty powered over almost straight from the kick-off to extend the visitors’ advantage, Flooks again successful with the kick before grabbing a second try of his own from an excellent break from his own half by Rudge, who committed the full-back before supplying the telling pass. Flooks added the conversion.
Dunbar then scooted over for Flooks to convert before Stanningley hit back with a converted try, but within minutes Hawkyard made a superb 60m break for Bracken to go over near the posts.
Flooks didn’t miss and when Dunbar raced in again for another converted score, it looked like being a complete rout.
Stanningley scored a consolation try with a minute remaining, but it failed to take the gloss off a stunning win.
