UNDERBANK coach Richard Knight wants his team to continue their excellent form when they travel to Nottingham Outlaws for tomorrow’s Co-operative Conference National clash.

The Holmfirth-based club maintained their excellent start to the season with last Saturday’s home victory against the Warrington Wizards, and in doing maintained their 100% home record and third place in the table. It was also the first time Rangers beat the Wizards in the seven years of the competition.

This weekend they face another big test down the M1 to face a Nottingham side lying in fourth spot in the table.

The Outlaws have started the season in great form, losing only one game from four away to current leaders Bramley Buffaloes and last Saturday sneaked a one-point victory at Liverpool courtesy of an injury-time field goal from star half-back Paul Calland.

But buoyant Knight believes Rangers are ready to play.

“We travel down to Nottingham with a lot of confidence after beating the Wizards for the first time in our history,” he said.

“We backed up a great performance against Bramley with a hard-fought victory.

“But I thought the score flattered us a little at the end, but at the same time the final result shows how good our defence was to limit them to three scores. We’d worked all week on our defensive technique and structure as a team.

“A major difference from the previous week was that midway through the first half we had a lot of pressure in the Warrington quarter and subsequently turned that pressure into points.

“This week we have trained twice ahead of what I think will be another massive test for us similar to the Bramley game. Nottingham have been going really well and we will have to be at our best to come away with the three points.

“This week we have plenty of bodies to pick from so we will travel down there with a very strong team and, with the likes of Tom Senior, Gary Keegan and Dave Valentine playing out of their skins, we are in a very confident mood to get the victory to maintain our position in the top three”.

Supporters are reminded that the coach leaves Underbank at 11am for the trip to the East Midlands for this Saturday’s big game.
