SLAITHWAITE Saracens are to enter the Yorkshire Cup for the first time.

Last season’s treble winners earned the right to enter the county knockout competition after securing promotion to Division II of the Pennine League.

The Saracens went up as Third Division champions and also won the Holliday Cup and the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy.

Pre-season training for the new campaign is now under way under coaches Ritchie Hawkyard, Peter Walsh and Richard Knight, with sessions taking place at the Spa on Mondays (from 6.30) and the Glen on Thursdays (6.30). All players are welcome.

Slaithwaite will also be fielding a women’s side next season, and training takes place every Wednesday at the Glen (6.30).

For any further information on the club or anyone who is interested in sponsoring the Saracens is asked to contact secretary Jonathan Fell (07960 797593).

Underbank Rangers will be running two teams in next season’s Pennine League.

Training for the new campaign under Australian head coach Rick Hedge began in mid-June and currently between 25 and 30 players are training on a regular basis.

Training takes place at the Underbank club every Thursday from 6.30pm and all players of any ability are welcome to turn up and give it a try.
