THERE was little joy in Cumbria for Siddal as they slipped to a 42-20 at in-form Wath Brow Hornets.

However, it took a strong second half display for the National Conference League Premier Division title-chasers to seal the points against last year’s runners-up Siddal.

At half-time the teams were tied at 20-20 with James McClennan scoring the opener at Trumpet Road only for Siddal to hit back with tries from Shaun Garrod and former Giants junior Richard Lopag and a goal from Chris Brooke.

The sides traded blows with a second Hornets try from Matty Huby responded to with a touchdown for Siddal winger Craig Sim, and then Karl Dixon try for the home side was again countered by a Emerson Newburn try and Brooke goal.

The home side got on terms on the stroke of half-time when Jamie Devine crossed and in the second half ran away with the game with further tries from McClennan, Dixon, Jamie Martin and Francis King – Jason Connery kicking five goals.

In Division Two Elland were beaten at home by table-topping East Leeds 40-12.

Tries from Paul Davies and David Montgomery, plus two goals from Phil Taylor, kept the Fourfields side in the hunt trailing just 14-12 after half an hour, but East Leeds cut loose to win scoring seven tries.
