ST JOSEPH’S are flying the Under 17s flag.
The Fartown-based club are so far the only one from Huddersfield to register a team at Under 17s level for the forthcoming Yorkshire Combination League 2012-13 winter season.
The players are now back in full training every Wednesday from 6.30pm and on Saturdays from 11am.
Any players from the other clubs who ran Under 16 sides last year and don’t want to make the step up to open age, are more than welcome to join Joes for the Yorkshire Combination League campaign.
The Open Age Pennine League squads are also back in training under new coach Simon Hagger, who has previously coached at Shaw Cross and more recently at Dewsbury Rams.
The team is coming together well, with training sessions taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.00pm and players old and new being welcome.
Joe’s are also moving clubhouse after the closure of their long-standing home at the Grimescar and will be going back to the Shepherds Arms at Cowcliffe, where landlady Danielle has made the Open Age and Junior teams welcome.
The club also thanked Vinny at the Railway on Bradford Road for helping them out in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, there will be a Rugby Fun Day at Fartown next Saturday (August 11), when friendly matches for mini-mod and girls, along with an Under 17s v Open Age match will be held.
Other attractions include rugby taster sessions for six to 11-year-olds, bouncy castles, a pole joust, soak-a-coach, rugby kit bring and buy stall and a barbecue.
Teams of five are invited to enter for the tug-of-war competition. There is a £5 registration fee for each team with the winners taking a share of the entry fees as a prize.
The fun starts at 10am and will finish around 4pm. Giants players should be in attendance from 2pm.
