LINDLEY SWIFTS have been promoted to Division II of the Pennine League.
The move has bee made due to a re-structuring of the League competition.
Swifts narrowly missed out on automatic promotion from Division III last season.
But they have been given the nod to move up in light of the club’s overall strong form over the last two years, which culminated in an appearance in the final of the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy in May.
Unfortunately, coaches John Beckett and Lance Gilbert have been forced to step down due to family commitments.
The club have already begun the process of trying to appoint a new coach, and are confident that when a new man is installed the Swifts will continue to grow.
“Gaining promotion is a great triumph for the lads’ dedication and hard work over the past few years,” said captain Sam McCluskey.
“John and Lance have trained us well, carving us into a higher-performance side, and it’s just a shame they won’t be available to help us capitalise on our recent good fortune.”
Training is continuing under the watchful eye of club stalwart Shane Whitaker every Tuesday and Thursday at Bay Athletic from 7pm.
New players – or coaches – who are interested in joining the Swifts should contact club secretary Jackie Cork on 07718 988786 or Shane on 07900 368218 for further details.
