Upbeat Richard Knight is hoping his Underbank side is in for a big National Conference League Division I finish.

Rangers’ impressive 60-4 home thrashing of bottom club Elland in their last League outing nine days ago has put them right back in the play-off mix.

That challenge would be re-inforced with another Cross triumph over second-bottom Millom tomorrow.

And with captain Kris Harrop having recovered from a virus, Australian stand-off Chris Druett back after a shoulder injury and former Leeds Rhinos Danny Bravo getting stronger with every game he plays following major knee surgery, head coach Knight is confident of securing win No9 of the campaign and strengthening their current mid-table spot this weekend.

On top of that, hooker Sam Rochford, prop Mikey Holmes and prop Jordan Williams are back in the fold after long injury lay-offs, which Knight knows could stand his club in good stead at the business end of the season.

“Things are building up nicely,” said Knight, who is ready to shift Mitchell Turner to hooker to cover for the unavailable Andy Boothroyd and Stephen Berry.

“We will have a few missing this weekend. Besides Boothy and Berry, Josh Dixon has picked up a shoulder injury.

“But for this stage of the season we’re looking in relatively good shape.

“To mount a successful campaign you really need some good strength-in-depth in your squad, and that’s what we’ve got here now.

“We weren’t looking too bad anyway, but we’ve now got Sam Rochford, Mikey Holmes and Jordan Williams back with us. They’ve all done well for us in the past – injuries really knocked them back – and I know they can do well for us in the future.

“If we can build on our big win over Elland by beating Millom this weekend, then we’ll put ourselves in a strong position to mount a play-off challenge, and having a strong squad available could make all the difference.”

But Knight issued a note of caution in the short term as his side prepares to face the struggling Cumbrians.

“If you look at the League table, you have to say we’re the clear favourites to win this one,” added the Bank boss.

“Millom have struggled this season, although I don’t understand why.

“They’ve got a similar squad to last season, when they were very strong and competitive, so we know how capable they could be if we don’t play well.”
