Upbeat Underbank Rangers are determined to finish their home National Conference League Third Division campaign is style.

Head coach Richard Knight’s men host Wigan St Cuthberts in the last home game at The Cross this year.

And with Rangers currently second in the table and needing to maintain their winning run in their bid to secure promotion at the first attempt, their motivation to succeed couldn’t be higher.

Despite last weekend’s 26-16 victory at Crosfields, Knight felt his side had produced a disappointing performance.

And the head coach is expecting far more from his side this weekend.

“We were a bit scrappy last week, we didn’t play very well,” he conceded.

“The saving grace from that game was the fact we still managed to win, of course.

“We have worked really hard in training this week, especially on our ball execution which let us down last week, so I’m looking for that to come to fruition this weekend.”

And Knight has been boosted by receiving a clean bill of health from the medical staff.

“The only player missing from the last game will be Dave Valentine,” added the boss.

“We’re pleased Corey Noel will be back this week after being out injured for a while and James Usher will also be back, which will give us a boost in the halves.”

Despite Wigan sitting 11th in the league table, Knight is wary of facing them again after they put up a good fight the last time the two sides met.

“They are a pretty tough team, they gave it to us a bit last time we played them,” he continued. “They are not the most skilful team but they really ripped into us for 80 minutes.

“But if we play smart, keep hold of the ball and keep completing our sets, then we shouldn’t have any problems beating them.”
