Upbeat Underbank coach Richard Knight is looking for his side to build on their rapidly-growing momentum heading into the National Conference League Second Division play-offs.

Rangers booked their place in the key end-of-season shake-up with last week’s big 46-10 home triumph over Oldham St Annes.

The men from The Cross complete their regular round of fixtures with tomorrow’s trip to fellow play-off side Leigh East.

An Underbank victory would secure them a home play-off clash against Blackbrook, while a defeat would send them to the home of the same opponents.

But Knight admits he’s more concerned about the performance of his side this weekend rather than the result.

“I know we’re good enough to beat Blackbrook home or away, so I’m not too bothered about the actual result,” said Knight, whose only change to last week’s side is the return of winger Courtney Allette for the injured Will England.

“It’s the performance that matters the most to me, because I know that if we built on the momentum we’ve seen over the past couple of weeks, we’ll be in our best form at the right time.

“It’s all about being at your best when it comes to the play-offs, and that could be the case for us.”

Just one week into the Pennine League season and it’s already a knockout weekend for most of Huddersfield’s clubs.

Two of the town’s teams are in Pennine President’s Cup first-round action and face tough away tests.

St Joseph’s make the trip to Upton, while Underbank Rangers are at Allerton Bywater.

At the same time, Lindley Swifts are ready to do battle in the BARLA Yorkshire Cup preliminary round at Drighlington.

But Newsome Panthers do have home advantage in their Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy first-round fixture and will be hoping to make that count against Dearne Valley Bulldogs.

However, Emley Moor are on the road in the Trophy competition at Hanging Heaton.

And in the Pennine League, Meltham All Blacks will be looking to make it two wins out of two at home to Silsden in Division IV West.
