FIRED-UP Mark Sowerby will be hoping his Huddersfield side can make up for the bitter disappointment of their cruel Cup exit at Kendal six days ago with a vital North I League victory over Westoe at Lockwood Park tomorrow (3.00).

Sowerby’s men were left seething after a late George Hinchliff ‘try’ was controversially ruled out to give unbeaten Kendal a win they hardly deserved.

But rather than dwelling on what might have been, the Huddersfield chief has been determined to use the result to his side’s advantage.

“We would obviously have loved to have won at Kendal, because it would have given us so much extra confidence,” said Sowerby.

“But, even in defeat, I think we can use the events of last week to our advantage.

“At the end of the day, it’s what we do in the League that’s the most important, and having no further interest in the Cup obviously means we can now focus completely on finishing as high up North I as possible.

“And if we go and beat Westoe tomorrow, our position in the leading bunch will be re-inforced.

“It would strengthen our place in second and put more daylight between us and Westoe in fourth.

“It’s not going to be an easy game. We’ve had some really tough battles with them over the years, and they’ve often got the better of us.

“In that sense we feel we owe them one, and if we play like we did up at Kendal a week ago, I know we’ll get another crucial win on the board.”
