A DEPLETED Moldgreen side gave an excellent account of themselves before falling to a 24-8 Division I defeat at West Bowling A.

The visitors were forced to go into the contest with only 15 players and no recognised goalkicker, and then picked up further injuries during the game, which didn’t help against confident and skilful opponents.

But with the likes of Jason Hamer, Craig Denby, Matt Dearnley and Dean Bradshaw making strong early impressions, Moldgreen started strongly and led 4-0 at the break with a try in the corner from Dale Williams.

Moldgreen also started the second half in promising fashion, with Gillan Warrington, Nick Swift and Darren Simpson working hard, which led to Mathew Johnson setting up a try for Kristian Burns.

But as the contest progressed, the visitors began to tire and the home side took full advantage to run away and produce a final scoreline which hardly reflected the effort Moldgreen had put in.
