AARON MURPHY is looking for the Huddersfield Giants to respond as effectively to their second Super League defeat of the season as they did to their first.

The early-season leaders failed to open up a three-point lead at the top of the table as they suffered a 28-2 defeat in arctic conditions at Warrington Wolves seven days ago.

Huddersfield have the perfect opportunity to bounce straight back at bottom club Salford City Reds today (3.00).

And Murphy knows the events of a month ago have shown his side has the quality to find the perfect response to a setback.

“The way we played at Leeds shows we have the quality to bounce straight back,” said the 24-year-old.

“Just five days earlier we’d suffered that awful home defeat to Bradford when absolutely everything went wrong. I think one or two were already starting to doubt us.

“But we proved them all wrong by winning so convincingly at Leeds. That’s the sign of a good team, and that’s what we are.

“We need to show that again against Salford today, and we’re looking forward to doing it.”

Murphy is aiming to show the struggling Reds no mercy this Easter, not just to help the Giants get back on the winning track but also to make sure he holds on to his wing spot.

The former Wakefield utility back’s form means fellow ex-Wildcat Luke George has been frozen out for the past month, and he admits he feels for his teammate.

“I know how tough he must be finding it, because I was in the same boat earlier in the season,” he added.

“To be honest, he’s too good not to be playing, but I know his time will come.”
