Aaron Murphy expects himself and the Huddersfield Giants to deliver when the stakes have never been higher.

Defeat at home to Catalan Dragons tonight (8.00) would bring Huddersfield’s Super League season to a demoralising end.

But victory would take them to within 80 minutes of a first Super League Grand Final appearance at Old Trafford.

And having been given the nod over Scott Grix to play at full-back against a Catalan side full of confidence after their shock 24-20 triumph at Leeds Rhinos six days ago, Murphy knows the pressure is on to not let anyone down.

“Our performance at Wigan was pretty embarrassing, especially as it was such a big game,” said Murphy in the wake of the 57-4 play-off thrashing at the DW Stadium last Friday.

“We got ourselves into this mess, so it’s up to us to fix it up, which we fully intend to do.

“It was fairly obvious our attitude wasn’t right, and if we get that right then we know we’ll beat Catalan.

“Since February we’ve worked so hard to earn our third-place finish and then have a real crack at reaching the Grand Final, so if we fail for a second time in the play-offs tonight I know it’s going to hit everyone really hard. No-one wants that.

“Paul Anderson has shown a lot of faith in me by picking me at full-back for such a big game, and it’s up to me to repay that faith.

“My form coming into the back end of the season hasn’t been too bad, and I’m hopeful the team and my form will improve when it’s never mattered more.

“Even though it was such a bad defeat at Wigan last week, our aim is still to reach the Grand Final, and we don’t intend Catalan to stop us.”
