HUDDERSFIELD Giants' Academy sides are continuing to find life tough in their respective competitions.

The Senior side suffered a 26-16 defeat against Salford at The Willows, while the Juniors were beaten 36-28 at home to Castleford Tigers.

The Under 21s were always struggling to keep up with Salford as they trailed 16-6 at the break.

The City Reds exended their lead early in the second half before a couple of late tries made the final score more respectable for the visitors.

Centre Chris Donlan led the way for the Giants with two well-taken tries, while Ashley Johnson added the other and Tom Hemingway landed two goals.

Huddersfield's next game is a trip to Hull on Sunday (noon).

The Junior Academy also take on Hull this weekend, hosting the Airlie Birds at the DRAM Centre on Saturday (2.00).

And they will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat against the third-placed Tigers when they resume action.

The Under 18s certainly gave it a good go against Castleford, with the Giants always in with a chance of beating their in-form visitors.

They trailed 24-12 at the break and then remained in the running after the interval.

Nathan Chappell crossed for two tries, while others came from Cowling, Lawrence and Roberts.

There were also four goals from Gareth Barber.
