HUDDERSFIELD Giants have unveiled a new white alternative shirt for Super League X.

The new design received its first public airing as part of the announcement of the new groundbreaking partnership between the Giants and the University of Huddersfield.

The white shirt will be used for many of the away trips in 2005 and has the university name displayed on the front.

It replaces the black away kit which Huddersfield have worn for the past two seasons.

And club officials have high hopes it will prove a popular move, with an independent poll of supporters having recently stated a preference for the white look.

Huddersfield's principal claret and gold home shirt remains the same, with the only change being the addition of the university logo.

With the shirts having now been unveiled, the Giants are keeping their fingers crossed that new replica shirts will be on sale before Christmas.

"We are very hopeful the new shirts will be well received by the fans," said Giants general manager Richard Thewlis.

"We are aware there has been a call among many fans to re-introduce a white shirt and that's what we've done.

"It's now a case of trying to produce the shirts in time to make the Christmas market."
