NEW Giants arrival Chris Nero is aiming to follow in the footsteps of fellow Australian Ben Roarty and make an immediate Super League impact.

Roarty came to the McAlpine after failing to command a regular starting spot with newly-crowned Australian NRL champions Penrith Panthers last year.

It proved a similar story for Nero at St George, and he feared it would be the same again if he stayed in Australia in 2004.

This prompted the powerful 22-year-old to look for a move into Super League, with the aim of making a similar impression to Roarty in the second half of 2003.

"I love playing the game and I want to do it as much as I can," he declared.

"That's why my initial aim is to cement a place in the Giants side and make it as enjoyable as possible.

"Hopefully, the fact I can play either centre or back-row will make me more of an attractive proposition to Jon Sharp.

"But, as I said, as long as I'm getting the game time I'll be happy."
