Larne Patrick feels the Giants have to get back to playing the “Huddersfield way” to dig themselves out of their deep Super League hole.

Struggling Huddersfield remain rooted to the foot of the 2016 top-flight table after suffering a heartbreaking 38-34 defeat at Castleford Tigers.

That makes it eight defeats from nine starts.

But Wales back-row forward Patrick feels all is not lost for the Giants if they get back to the basics.

“This Cas game has been the story of so much of our season,” said the 26-year-old, who last year was a part of the Wigan side that reached the Super League Grand Final during his season-long loan.

“We seem to be able to get into a lead and then can’t find a way of keeping hold of it. We just don’t seem to have the confidence to do that and end up panicking when we should be showing a bit of composure.

“Instead of trying to close a game out, we go for the miracle balls instead and allow the opposition a way back in.

“The sooner we can get that out of our system, the better. We need to start playing the Huddersfield way again.

“That way has served us so well in recent years.

“We knew we weren’t the most flamboyant side in the world, we were a hard-working team who had the ability to grind the opposition down and then have the world-class players to finish things off.

“If we get back to doing that again, then we know we can be successful again.

“I know that if we play to our full potential we are a top-four team. We need to start showing that form again, because we know how much our confidence will grow off the back of it.”
