BRAD DREW is back!

The vastly-experienced 34-year-old Australian play-maker will return to the Giants for the 2010 Super League season after spending the last two seasons at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

He is regarded as a natural replacement for on-loan Scott Moore, who is returning to St Helens at the end of the season and, despite being one of the oldest players in the competition, Giants coach Nathan Brown believes Drew will do an excellent job.

“Drewy will fit into our squad nicely,” he said.

“He is very experienced, has a good kicking game and knows his way around the field. He is a very smart player and his influence will be great for our younger guys in the halves and hooking roles.

“We’re losing Scotty, who has been very good for us, so to be able to pop Drewy in there gives us real competition for places and depth to the squad.”

Drew spent three highly-successful seasons at the Galpharm between 2005 and 2007, during which time he scooped the club’s Player of the Year award every season and was man-of-the-match in the Giants’ Cup Challenge Cup semi-final victory over Leeds Rhinos in 2006.

The former Canberra Raiders hooker, left, jumped at the chance to re-join the Giants on a one-year deal after rejecting a lucrative offer to join fellow Super League club Salford City Reds, and can’t wait to come ‘home’.

“Things moved pretty quickly late on to come back, although most people know I’ve always been a regular visitor to the Galpharm and have many friends there,” said Drew, who lives in the town.

“I have enjoyed my time at the Wildcats and will be giving it my all to have big play-off run with them and, while it will be sad to leave, I am re-joining my first English club which is still close to my heart and I’m obviously looking forward to working with Browny.

“I know he has a role for me to help the younger lads and to steer the team around the park, and I know the club can have a big year in 2010.”
