Former Huddersfield Giants coach Steve Ferres is expecting Bradford Bulls to field a strong squad against his former club.
The Super League Giants travel to Odsal on Sunday, January 18, for a pre-season friendly with a Bulls squad who will be battling to win promotion from the Kingstone Press Championship at the first time of asking in 2015.
And Bradford’s managing director Ferres says he is delighted with the squad and coaching staff that has been assembled since the club were relegated from Super League.
“I think we’ve got an outstanding coaching team and an outstanding training facility at Tong,” said Ferres.
“The players appreciate that because they are buying into the culture that has been created at the club. There is now a more positive vibe around the place.”
Ferres expects head coach Jimmy Lowes to use his entire 30-man squad – injuries permitting – in the three upcoming friendlies against Castleford Tigers, the Giants and Leeds Rhinos.
“Playing three Super League teams in friendlies, we’ve given ourselves a difficult start,” said Ferres.
“But Jimmy will probably give the whole squad a run-out in these games and then we start the season with a game at Leigh.
“Everybody is building up to peak fitness.”
