JON SHARP is hoping a massive contrast in weekend commitments will aid the Giants at Leeds Rhinos.

The teams go head-to-head in a Super League clash at Headingley on Sunday week.

That's the next game for Huddersfield, who are not in action this weekend because original League opponents St Helens are instead taking on Australian NRL champions Brisbane Broncos in the World Club Challenge at Bolton this Friday.

In contrast, the Rhinos face a weekend trip to the South of France to face Catalans Dragons.

That journey proved a problem for many clubs last season, taking three days out of their tight Super League schedules.

And Sharp is hoping he can use the extra time to his side's advantage.

"I think this break has come at just the right time for us," said Sharp.

"We had two tough pre-season games - as we wanted - followed by our three opening Super League games.

"Those obviously haven't gone how we would have wished, and the break has allowed us to take stock.

"We've got the time to work on where we went wrong against Hull KR, which we hope to use to our advantage because of Leeds' weekend commitments."

Meanwhile, Hull KR's Iain Morrison has avoided a ban after being found guilty of striking.

Morrison, who was sin-binned by referee Ben Thaler after coming to blows with former Giants teammate Stuart Jones in Sunday's 17-10 win, was fined £300 by RFL disciplinary chiefs.
