Brett Ferres has returned to the country and immediately expressed his delight at the Huddersfield Giants’ capture of Jack Hughes on a season-long loan from Wigan.

Huddersfield back-row forward Ferres heard about Hughes’ arrival during his time in New Zealand and Australia where he featured in all three of England’s Four Nations’ clashes.

And the Giants vice-captain is already excited at the prospect of working alongside the 22-year-old Hughes.

“Jack’s a good, tough player who’ll definitely add value to our squad,” said Ferres, who is now having a break before confirming a return date to pre-season training.

“It’s disappointing to lose Larne (Patrick) as part of the deal, because’s he’s also a very good player.

“But I know what Jack can do and we certainly haven’t lost anything by getting him in.

“When I played with Jack in the England Knights the other year he was a stand-out player. As well as his toughness, he has a fair amount of skill and is a good on-field talker.”
