IT’S great to be back at the Galpharm for the first time in a month this Sunday – and we’re determined to finish the last game of the regular Super League season with a bang!
Obviously, a lot has happened since we hosted Bradford Bulls on August 16 in our last home fixture, including the small matter of a Challenge Cup final against Warrington at Wembley!
As everyone knows, that didn’t exactly go according to plan, just like that home game against the Bulls, which was played the week after our superb semi-final triumph over St Helens.
So, the aim against Wigan this weekend is, of course, to put the smiles back on the faces of the Giants’ fans after what has been a bitterly disappointing past month.
And there’s no doubt a win is crucial at this stage of the year.
It’s always important to take some form with you into the play-offs and that means putting in a top performance in the last game of the regular season, which is of course the game against the Warriors, which we know is going to be very tough.
They’re in the same position as us, in that they need to win to give them some momentum going into the play-offs, so we know only our best is going to be good enough.
But after getting back to winning ways at Celtic Crusaders last week we’re determined to build on that and make sure we give it a really good go in the play-offs.
Although the Challenge Cup final was absolutely fantastic, I think the main aim of all the Australians is to try and win the Grand Final.
That’s the competition which rewards the team that’s been the most consistent throughout the course of the season, and the Grand Final is the one you train and play for for 45 weeks of the season to try and reach.
If we could manage to get that far it really would crown what has been a magnificent first season for me here.
