GIANTS coach Jon Sharp is celebrating Christmas by increasing the workload of his players!

Despite the Super League club choosing not to play a Boxing Day game, Sharp is determined to maintain the pre-season intensity.

And that means making sure his players call in for duty as normal throughout the festive period.

"It's business as usual for the boys," confirmed Sharp.

"We're training up to Friday and then they'll be in as normal from the start of next week.

"It could be tempting to give the boys a couple of extra days off at this time of the year, but we can't afford to do that.

"This is an important time of the year in the build-up to the start of the new season.

"This is the time when we need to start building up for our visit to our training camp in Portugal on January 12.

"Between now and then we have a lot of work to do.

"After such a fantastic start to pre-season, the last thing we need to do now is lower the intensity.

"Everything will be done over the next week to make sure that doesn't happen."

Sharp also reports that all those players who were being treated for injuries at the end of the season are now fully fit - apart from Jim Gannon.

The powerful prop had major knee surgery at the end of the campaign and will not be ready to return until April.

But Sharp is delighted with the way he is progressing.

"Jim is continuing to work hard to get himself right and everything is on course for him to be back on schedule."
