Chris Bailey has revealed he isn’t enjoying playing hooker for the Huddersfield Giants.

But the Australian back-row forward is prepared to carry on in the role if it means he can help Huddersfield keep on picking up the Super League wins – and maintain a scoring rate of three tries in two games!

Bailey struck twice from hooker in the 44-30 defeat at in-form Castleford Tigers and backed that up with a third in Sunday’s 52-26 home win over Bradford Bulls.

With Shaun Lunt still struggling with his long-standing calf injury, the former Manly and Newcastle Knights Australian NRL star could again play No9 in Sunday’s home clash against Catalan Dragons.

And if he does, he’ll again give it his best shot.

“To be honest, I’m not really enjoying playing hooker. It’s not my cup of tea,” said Bailey.

“But if it means I’m helping the team improve and picking up the wins, then I’m happy to keep on doing it.

“At the end of the day, you’re there for the benefit of the team above everything else.

“Up until the Cas game, my only other experience of playing hooker was for about 25 minutes for Manly quite a number of years ago now.

“It’s a bit different getting to every ruck and playing dummy half, but it’s certainly given me a full appreciation of those players who play 80 minutes in the position every week, because it is very tough. May be that’s why I don’t like it!

“But, as I said, it’s not about me, it’s about the team, and as long as I’m playing regularly and contributing then that’ll do for me.

“If it means I’m at hooker again against Catalan on Sunday, then I’ll be giving it my best shot.”
