Fit-again Chris Bailey is hoping to celebrate a big Huddersfield Giants finish.

The 33-year-old back-row forward made a return to action in the 34-24 weekend win over Wakefield as Huddersfield secured their top-four Super League finish for the Super 8s.

It was Bailey’s first game since suffering a torn bicep in the home win over Catalans Dragons on April 19.

But having emerged from the contest unscathed, the Australian is planning to bring the curtain down on his Huddersfield career with a run of appearances all the way to the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford.

“For this stage of the season, I’m feeling really fresh,” said Bailey, who played around 30 minutes in his comeback game.

“That’s obviously because of the time I spent recovering from my injury, so I’ve got to make the most of that.

“ I’m now aiming for a really big finish to my year.

“And I certainly feel better now I’ve got this first game back under my belt.

“I was feeling a little nervous before I got out there, wondering how well the arm would stand up in a game.

“But it was strong, which is a credit to our medical staff, and means I can now focus on giving it everything in the games ahead.

“We know we’ve got the seven games to play in the Super 8s and another two if we get to the Grand Final, which is our ultimate aim.

“It’s something we are capable of achieving.”

But Bailey is aware the Giants must improved dramatically on the way they played against the Wildcats to guarantee any future meaningful success.

“Our performance the other day simply wasn’t good enough, we all know that,” added Bailey.

“We played like a team who looked as if it was just a case of turning up and doing enough to win the game.

“Then when we kept building up a lead we seemed to relax, believing we’d got the job done, and let them get back into the game.

“You’re not going to win many footy games with that sort of attitude, so we know we’re going to have to get that right for the Super 8s, which I’m sure we will.”
