Delighted Under 19s coach Chris Thorman has hailed the Giants Academy’s massive 80-0 away win at Cumbria Academy.

Thorman’s youngsters were in red-hot form against their outclassed opponents to put them in upbeat mood ahead of Saturday’s home clash against Leeds Rhinos at the DRAM Centre.

And Thorman couldn’t have been happier with his side’s attitude:

“As a player and a coach you must not forget to celebrate the victories. All day the boys’ attitude was good for what is a long journey as well,” said Thorman.

“We prepared well for the game and followed through with the plan and nilled the opposition, so as a coach you have got to be happy with that.

“On top of that, there were some outstanding individual performances, especially from Darnell McIntosh, who scored a hat trick. He was excellent.

“I also thought Jack Richardson and Alex Young really came of age. It was great to see them doing the things that we practise, individually beating people one-on-one and, as outside backs, it is a fundamental part of their game and they did that, I thought they were both good.”

Besides the three tries from McIntosh and two from Richardson, there were also scores from Will Ingleby, Kieron Reilly, Harry Woollard, Jamie Greenwood, Billy Hayes, Oliver Jamieson and Connor Redgewick, while goals were landed by McIntosh (seven) and Izaac Farrell (five).
