BRANDON COSTIN is being groomed for the loose-forward role with the Giants.

Confirmation was received with the announcement of the line-up for tonight's Super League pre-season clash against Castleford at the McAlpine (8.00).

New head coach Jon Sharp has revealed Costin will play at No13, while Ben Roarty - a second-row starter last season - is at prop.

Those are the two main switches Sharp makes to his new-look side as the Giants play their first major trial clash ahead of the start of Super League on February 22 (full line-up on Page 22).

But the former St Helens assistant coach has made it clear his squad is flexible.

"I'm very keen to see Brandon perform at loose-forward," said Sharp.

"He should do well because the roles of a loose-forward and stand-off (where Costin played a lot last season) are similar.

"There are some who feel his best position is centre, but Brandon is one of our best players with the ball and he'll get more of that at the back of the pack.

"But who's to say he won't switch back later. Tonight is the first chance to see if the move could work."
