The Huddersfield Giants could announce what will be their 2015 regular Super League matchday at Sunday’s home clash against Widnes Vikings.

Huddersfield officials have made no secret of their disappointment at the size of the crowds that have been coming to the John Smith’s Stadium this year.

Despite finishing top for the first time in 81 years to claim last season’s Super League Leaders’ Shield, attendances have failed to increase, with the average around 6,500.

As a result, the Giants have looked into the possibility of switching their fixtures to either Friday evening or Saturday afternoon – or stick with Sunday afternoon – and have undertaken a survey with the fans to hear their views.

The club may delay the announcement if they decide to reveal the information at the same time they launch their 2015 season-ticket deals, which is expected in the next fortnight.

But whichever move the Giants make, club chairman Ken Davy has admitted he’s been delighted with the response of the fans to the matchday survey.

“I would like to thank the almost 1,000 fans who responded to our recent survey regarding, in particular, the times and days for the Giants’ regular Super League games,” he said.

“This has been without doubt our largest and most successful survey, and I’d like to pay tribute to the way almost every supporter took the trouble to add a personal comment and hope to announce the decision at the Widnes game.

“What I can say already is that our disappointment with our crowd levels is shared overwhelmingly by our fans.

“Given that last year we topped the table for the first time since 1932 (an astonishing 81-year gap), are currently in the top six and have lost only four of our last 24 home games it is clearly disappointing.

“We do thank wholeheartedly the thousands of our loyal Huddersfield Giants supporters, both locally and further afield, who regularly come along to share the fun, excitement and drama of Super League with us.”
