Craig Huby is confident the Huddersfield Giants will be fully prepared to host Hull FC in next Sunday’s Super League XX opener at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Huddersfield head into the new top-flight campaign with just the one warm-up game at Halifax last weekend under their belt.

But even though the club’s planned opening trial clash at Bradford Bulls the week before was postponed due to a frozen pitch, the Giants clicked straight into gear at The Shay to storm to a convincing 38-6 triumph.

And Huby knows that’s down to the quality of the pre-season preparation, which he’s confident will stand his new club in good stead when the season gets under way.

“The work we’ve put in throughout pre-season has been quality,” said the 28-year-old, who brought the curtain down on his 12 years at Castleford Tigers when he switched to the Giants at the end of last season.

“It has been tough, but everyone’s trained hard and the boys have really stuck together from start to finish.

“I think that was reflected in what we saw at Halifax last weekend.

“Having just the one pre-season game probably isn’t ideal, but we definitely got enough out of that Fax game to know the work we’ve put in over the past few months has paid off and that we’ll be more than ready to face Hull.

“As a group, we’re all feeling pretty confident.”
