He may be sporting a new look.

But Craig Huby doesn’t intend the loss of his famous bushy beard to lessen his effectiveness for the Giants in Friday’s Super League XX clash at Salford Red Devils.

The 28-year-old prop joined Tyrone McCarthy, Kyle Amor, Adam Cuthbertson and Roy Asotasi in shaving off their facial hair to help raise cash for the family of Keighley Cougars half-back Danny Jones, who suffered a cardiac arrest and died during his side’s Championship I clash at London Skolars on Sunday.

But while Huby admits it’ll take him a few days to get used to his new fresh-faced appearance, he knows that won’t make any difference when he takes to the field.

“The face felt a bit cold the first time I stepped outside, that’s for sure!” revealed the former Castleford Tigers favourite.

“And I suppose it’ll feel a little strange not having a beard for the first couple of days. I’ve had it since 2013.

“But there’s no way it’ll affect the way I play. It shouldn’t make the slightest difference at all.

“I suppose those fans haven’t heard what I’ve done might think the Giants have made a new signing.

“If that’s the case, I hope I can show them straight away that it’s me and that I can contribute to getting us another crucial win.

“Things are still pretty tight in the League table, so a win against Salford would help put a bit of daylight between us and the half-a-dozen clubs below us, and help us focus all our attention in guarantee we can go on and secure a top-four finish.”

Huby also admits a win at the AJ Bell Stadium on Friday would help erase the memory of their bitterly disappointing 18-12 home defeat to Salford on Good Friday.

“That defeat and the opening-day loss at home to Hull have been two of our toughest to take,” added Huby.

“We went to Hull the other week and gained our revenge, and now we’re looking to repeat that against Salford this Friday.

“We’ll be looking to put an 80-minute performance together, and if we do that then we know we’ll secure another victory.”

Meanwhile, the Rugby Football League have confirmed they have no evidence to support claims Leeds Rhinos’ Kallum Watkins bit the Giants’ Jake Connor and Connor bit Zak Hardaker during last week’s thrilling 24-24 draw at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“The disciplinary panel have taken a look at the alleged incidents and could see nothing, while neither club has made a complaint to us regarding the allegations,” said a RFL spokesman.

“It’s also normally the case that if a player claims to have been beaten, they immediately show the bite marks to the referee. This wasn’t the case on this occasion.”
