FANS’ favourite David Faiumu has signed a two-year Giants contract extension.

The 27-year-old Kiwi international has committed to the Galpharm cause until the end of the 2013 Super League season.

And the man who was voted Player of the Year in 2010 by his playing colleagues is promising exciting times ahead.

“I’m very happy I’ve extended my stay because I think we have genuine chances of winning silverware both now and in the future,” said former North Queensland star Faiumu.

“I am settled here and like living in Huddersfield, and the team is strong.

“Not only that, we now have lots of really good young kids pushing through which gives us good depth to the squad.

“I think Nathan and the coaches have brought some good footy out of me, I can still get better working here and bring some experience to the younger lads.”

Brown has no doubt the contract offer to Faiumu will serve the club well.

“Fuey is very well respected among everyone at the club and is a very important part of our team on and off the field,” said Brown, who has a couple of injury concerns for Sunday’s home clash with Hull FC but has named an unchanged 19.

“For the Giants to keep improving it was important that Fuey was retained by the club going forward.

“He has played a big part in the way this club has developed in the past two years.”

Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis added: “I’m sure Fuey could have had his pick of many clubs but it’s the Giants where his heart is, he wanted to stay and the deal was relatively simple to conclude.

“It gives us further stability with a proven international performer in the claret and gold for the foreseeable future.”

He added: “Fuey is a real fans favourite. There is a genuine buzz around the crowd when he has the ball as I guess no-one really knows which way he will go and where he will offload, and that excites people.”

The Giants Under 20s play Hull FC at Laund Hill tonight (7.30) when new signing from Australia, Jamie Simpson, is in line for a first run-out in claret and gold.

Other members of the senior squad could also be included.
