DAVID HODGSON is determined to remain at the top of Super League’s tryscoring list – as long as it means the Giants make a winning charge.

The 27-year-old England winger grabbed his first hat trick for Huddersfield in the 26-24 triumph at Castleford Tigers.

That made it five for the season – one ahead of any other player in the top-flight – and he is hoping to add to that tally tomorrow as the Giants look to secure a first home triumph of the campaign against in-form Harlequins (3.00).

“I’ve been pleased with the start I’ve made to the season and being at the top of the tryscoring charts is a big bonus,” said the former Wigan flier (inset).

“After missing the first half of last season (his first at the club) with my knee injury, I was desperate to start this season strongly, and I think I’ve managed to do that.

“Obviously, like a number of us, I was disappointed with the way things went against Hull, but I thought the response by everyone against Cas was fantastic.

“It’s going to be a really tough place to go and win this season, so to get the League points was fantastic.

“And it was even better because I got my first hat trick for the Giants. As a winger, scoring tries is always something you strive for, but it’s only if they help the team win that you can feel 100% happy.”

The Giants have lost their opening two home games – against Hull and St Helens – and the wing ace is determined to avoid an unwanted hat trick

“It’s really strange how things have panned out,” he added. “Usually, it’s a case of winning home games and then struggling to match it on the road, but it’s obviously been the other way around.

“Hopefully, we can end that home run this weekend and get the victory over Quins. But we know it’s not going to be easy. It seems that every time we play at the Galpharm this year, we face a side that’s bang in form, and that’s the case again.

“They’ve made an impressive start to the season and will take some beating, but if we play to our full potential I know we can get that first home win.”
