BUOYANT Giants chairman Ken Davy is hoping the arrival of star signing Michael De Vere will provide fresh impetus on the season-ticket sales front.

The Australian Test centre jetted in to Huddersfield to take up a two-year contract at the start of the week.

His well-documented knee injury means the 28-year-old former Brisbane Broncos goalkicking centre will miss the opening weeks of the Super League X season.

But Giants and Town owner Davy admits that De Vere's arrival has created a massive buzz inside the Galpharm and he is keeping his fingers crossed that the positive mood can also create a flurry of activity on the financial front.

Davy readily admits that season-ticket sales have yet to reach their target, although exact figures are being kept firmly under wraps.

But he remains confident that by the time the Giants' Super League X season gets under way at Leigh Centurions on Saturday, February 12 (6.05), the club's targets will have been met.

"We're a little disappointed that our target season-ticket sales haven't yet been reached," he admitted.

"However, we're very hopeful that with Michael's arrival and with the season drawing closer, everything will start to fall into place.

"I'm enjoying the progress we have made so far and with the way Jon Sharp's squad is shaping up.

"This coming season promises to be very exciting, and to see players of the calibre of Michael, Brad Drew, Chris Thorman and Paul Jackson joining those players from last year's squad is fantastic.

"It's hard to imagine even a decade ago some of the best players in the world running out on to the stadium pitch wearing the claret and gold of Huddersfield.

"But that's now the stage we have reached and it's an exhilarating and exciting prospect seeing them do battle against the likes of Leeds, Bradford, Wigan and St Helens.

"I just hope that the public of Huddersfield come out in their numbers to back up what is being achieved on the field."
