VICTORIOUS Huddersfield Giants are today celebrating Junior Academy Championship qualification after beating Bradford Bulls 34-16 at Wagon Lane last night.

The grading-phase win came on top of earlier triumphs over Leeds Rhinos and London Broncos and obviously bodes well for the Giants' future.

Even without the services of several top Academy players, including Thomas Hemingway who is on Super League duty at Leeds tonight, the visitors proved far too strong for the Bulls.

After conceding an early converted try, coach Chris Plume's side were soon on top, with Paul Mennell putting Luke George over for the first of a hat trick of tries after 12 minutes.

Danny Garside added the conversion and did the same in the 20th minute after Simon George crossed to give Huddersfield a lead they were never to lose.

By half time, the lead had been increased to 16-6 with an unconverted try to Peter Robinson, and by the 65th minute the advantage was up to 34-6.

Within 10 minutes of the restart, George had completed his hat trick and Mennell also crossed for a try, with Garside landing three further goals to complete the scoring.

Bradford scored two tries in the last four minutes to take some of the gloss off a victory in which the likes of Simon and Luke George, Leroy Cudjoe, Mennell and Garside all impressed.

There was also a top debut from Craig Williams from Moldgreen.
