HUDDERSFIELD Giants have reached the Super League play-offs for the first time!

Yesterday’s 24-22 triumph over Wakefield at the Galpharm Stadium guaranteed coach Jon Sharp’s side a top-six finish with one game to go.

And if they win at Hull KR next Saturday and Hull lose at home to Bradford, the Giants will finish the regular season a superb fourth.

That would be highly significant, with a finish so high booking them a home tie in the first round of the play-offs the following weekend.

But delighted chief Sharp was not prepared to look that far ahead.

Instead, he was keen to praise the heroics of his men after having to dig so deep to overcome the determined Wildcats.

“This season has been a long, hard battle,” said Sharp.

“But we are in the play-offs, and we are there on merit. I’m proud to be able to say that, because I am proud of what this bunch of players have achieved.

“We are obviously delighted to be in the play-offs, especially when you look back at the dark days of rounds one to seven when we couldn’t buy a win. Since then we have gone from strength to strength and boast a record only bettered by St Helens.

“That’s pleasing, and so was the manner of yesterday’s win.

“Wakefield made it really hard for us and we had to produce a display of real character to gain our reward.”
