GIANTS assistant Paul Anderson hailed the England selection of Danny Brough and highlighted why he can help orchestrate the downfall of Super League leaders Harlequins.

The 28-year-old scrum half and former Scotland captain joins the England Elite training squad next week but first has the task of steering the Giants towards two points at The Stoop on Friday (8.00, Sky TV).

Anderson accepts that won’t be easy but believes the senior international recognition for Brough, Leroy Cudjoe, Eorl Crabtree and the injured Luke Robinson will provide an effective spur.

“Danny has done good things since he’s come to us and the fact that nine of our players are in the Elite and Knights squads shows we are doing something right,” said Anderson.

“If Danny keeps on doing what he’s doing and we keep on winning then everyone is happy.

“It is probably something which should have come to him earlier in his career, but it’s great that he’s involved now because his kicking game is terrific and he gets his team around the field.”

Anderson says Brough’s teammates appreciate all aspects of his game, abilities which earned him World Cup recognition with the Scots in 2008 – his grandfather is from Glasgow – and which he hopes will see him wearing white in 2013.

“His offence is improving all the time while his defence has never been an issue – he’s a tough little nugget who puts his head in where he needs to,” he added.

“His big attribute is his kicking game, but his speed and the intricacies he brings are also huge assets.”
