Eorl Crabtree and Kyle Wood are ready to play their first Giants games in 2016.

But captain Danny Brough will sit out Saturday’s home pre-season clash against Catalans Dragons (3.00), and hooker Luke Robinson is given another week to fully recover from a niggly training-ground knock.

Prop Crabtree and hooker/half-back Wood missed last week’s impressive 38-6 trial triumph at Hull KR to make sure they were both 100% fit to face the French this weekend.

Saturday’s encounter against a strong Catalans line-up will be Wood’s first competitive run-out since he suffered a broken foot in last season’s Super League win at the Dragons in July.

And with Brough now being held in reserve for Huddersfield’s Super League 2016 opener at St Helens on Friday, February 5, Wood could return at half-back to partner Jamie Ellis,

Also named in the Giants’ 20-man squad are new Australian NRL signings Ryan Hinchcliffe and Sam Rapira and Oli Roberts, who all impressed in last week’s win at Hull KR and are poised to make their home Huddersfield debuts.

“With 20 players named this weekend and a couple of others waiting in the wings, there’s a lot at stake for the boys this weekend,” said assistant coach Kieron Purtill.

“Everybody has been working tremendously hard throughout pre-season to make sure they’re part of the opening-night squad at St Helens early next month.

“This game against Catalans is the chance for them to cement their spots.”
