GIANTS prop Eorl Crabtree has handed over a piece of cherished family rugby league memorabilia to the Gillette RL Heritage Centre at the George Hotel.
Eorl’s grandad, Shirley Crabtree (the father of famous wrestler Big Daddy, who was also called Shirley) won the Challenge Cup with Halifax at Wembley Stadium in 1931 when they beat York 22-8.
His Challenge Cup winners’ medal has remained with the Crabtree family ever since.
But they have decided to donate the medal, along with two other RL medals won to Shirley, to the Heritage Centre where they can be placed on permanent display.
The Crabtree family decided Eorl would be the best man to do the official handover.
