NEW Giants prop-forward Paul Jackson could go before a Rugby League tribunal in 10 days' time.

The 26-year-old is one of 15 former Castleford players who claim they are owed money by the Tigers following their relegation from Super League.

A tribunal at RFL headquarters at Red Hall has been set down for January 25, when all the individual cases are scheduled to be heard.

Whether Jackson and his former Tigers teammates will have to attend has yet to be decided.

The tribunal must decide whether Castleford were right to terminate the contracts of the players on October 16, the date of the Super League Grand Final, rather than at the official end of the rugby league season - the Tri Nations final between Great Britain and Australia on November 27.

Three weeks ago, a first tribunal came down in favour of Paul Mellor and Motu Tony, a decision over which Castleford are considering making a legal challenge.

And now the rest of the former Tigers stars are hoping to follow in the footsteps of Mellor and Tony and be successful in winning the six weeks' wages they say they are owed.

Huddersfield-born prop Nathan Sykes has been acting as the players' unofficial spokesman and is confident the outcome will be positive for himself, Jackson and the rest.

"All we are asking for is the money which we believe legally belongs to us," said Sykes, who will be playing for Featherstone Rovers in National League I this year.

"Our contracts were supposed to run until the end of November, which was the end of the season.

"But Castleford terminated them on October 16, which was the end of the Super League season.

"Surely it us up to the governing body to decide when the season ends and we, the players, genuinely believe that is the end of November.

"Obviously, this is proving a very frustrating time for us all and I've been speaking to Paul Jackson over the issue on a regular basis.

"I know he's a little disappointed, but what also becomes clear when I speak to him is how much he's enjoying himself at the Giants.

"It's obvious he's loving it there!"
