DAVID FAIUMU is pushing his claims for a first Giants start – and it could be in front of a bumper Galpharm crowd.

The Kiwi international made a big impression in the 30-24 victory at Hull FC when stepping off the bench, and he could get the nod for Saturday’s home clash with high-riding Catalans Dragons, when it’s free admission for the 7.30 kick-off.

Caretaker coach Kieron Purtill is playing his cards close to his chest, but Faiumu clearly has the credentials to entertain the home faithful and a massive nationwide audience on Sky TV.

“We’ll pick the team which is best suited to getting a victory against Catalans Dragon,” said Purtill.

“Faiumu has given us an added dimension, however, among a lot of other creative players, and he has settled in well at the club.

“I think David and Ryan Hudson mixing and matching with each other will cause people a lot of problems, and Faiumu showed he can create some spark.

“It will take a bit of time for the players to get used to him and for him to get used to us, but he is an exciting player with genuine international class and we know he’s keen to do well in the remaining games.”
