YOUNG Giants Super League squad man Ben Feehan has joined National League I side Featherstone Rovers on a month's loan.

The 18-year-old centre has already been pencilled in to make his debut in Sunday's Arriva Trains Cup clash at Hull KR.

And Giants coach Jon Sharp believes the opportunity will do Feehan a power of good.

"Ben has looked a little stale in the Academy in recent weeks and this move could be just what he needs," said Sharp.

"This is a step up for him and we're hoping to see him rise to the extra challenge.

"We will obviously be monitoring Ben's progress while he's away and I'll be contacting Featherstone coach Gary Price on a regular basis to see how he's doing.

"I don't see this move as simply shipping Ben out, I see it more as a career development opportunity for him."

Feehan's move obviously means he misses tomorrow's Senior Academy trip to face Wigan at Orrell (2.00).

Yet added to the side are hooker Phil Joseph following his spell in the first team and top young scrum half Lee Simpson, who is back after undergoing ankle surgery.
