FIVE players from French Super League club Catalans Dragons who were arrested following an alleged brawl in Leeds city centre have been released on police bail and allowed to return to Perpignan.

The five were detained overnight in Leeds while their team-mates returned to France following Sunday’s 28-20 defeat by Wakefield in their first Super League game of the season.

Nine men in all were held for questioning while two men were taken to hospital for treatment to head injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire police confirmed this morning all nine have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

The incident was captured on CCTV at 2.15am yesterday in Boar Lane in Leeds city centre, where the Catalans players were thought to have been celebrating the birthday of one of their team-mates.

In a statement, the Dragons said they were co-operating fully with the police in their investigations.

The team are due to return to England later this week for Sunday’s match against Harlequins at the Twickenham Stoop and will be in Huddersfield to face the Giants on April 2.
